L7: PRETEND WE'RE DEAD (2016)
Saw L7 once with Gray Matter opening. They were good, but maybe overshadowed by Gray Matter playing Swann Street. L7 was part of that weird group of bands that got signed post-Nirvana and never really lived up to major label expectations. That makes for a good story. This was a fancy, high production film. Just a straight history of the band.
I forgot that the mainstream types probably mostly know then because one of them pulled out a used tampon and threw it into the crowd at a festival, but there you go. That grunge oral history book that came out a few years ago, Everybody Loves Our Town, really paints them as drunks more so than this movie. Here, they just seem like fun people to hang with.
Also interesting is following a group of women through the post-Nirvana music business. It's a different perspective and a good subject for a documentary.
