EVERY EVERYTHING: THE MUSIC, LIFE & TIMES OF GRANT HART (2013)
Grant Hart, obviously, has the reputation of being difficult. This movie did nothing to dispel that. The whole thing was kinda dark and depressing, which I guess fits with his songs. Although the songwriting between him and Bob Mould was close to 50/50, Mould always got more publicity and had a more “successful” post-Husker career (honestly, both have done some great stuff, and both have some boring or just plain bad releases.) It's got to be hard for someone with an ego to always be thought of as second fiddle. And Hart had an ego.
The scenes of him walking around on the empty lot where his mom's house used to be (it burnt down) talking about what was in each room was pretty dark. Some cool footage of Hart playing solo stuff live. Hart lived a pretty fascinating and rich life. This movie didn’t linger on his drug abuse or ignore it completely, but touched on it as a part of his story, which seems like a fair way to handle it.
I liked this, overall, but it didn't really present any new information that anyone who knows anything about Husker Du didn't already know.
