EDGE: PERSPECTIVES ON A DRUG FREE CULTURE (2010)

x2.jpg

If you know anything about hardcore, you aren't going to get too much out of this film that breaks straight edge down into a few distinct categories: DIY, animal rights, old school, etc. I feel like this is something to show my mom if I was 16 and she asked what straight edge was.

It's got Ray Cappo, Karl Earth Crisis, dude from Have Heart and more. Was cool to see Kent McClard get some run. He should be interviewed more. Funniest interview was to hear Ian MacKaye talk about his dislike of gangsta rap (which is slightly uncomfortable,) and then tell a story about getting out of the van after a long drive on a Fugazi tour to immediately have some kid say hi and then ask what drink he was holding. When Ian tells him tea, the kid says, "my friend says caffeine is a drug." Ian replies with, "tell your friend 'fuck you.'"

This is basically a high school term paper on straight edge.
